Upholstered in Prelle fabric, pattern 89645 Damas Altai, color 108 Ardoise. These stools display the chinoiserie style, a craze which gripped Europe in the nineteenth century. This is exemplified by the richly ebonized wood and stylized curves. Fittingly, the fabric's name "Altai" alludes to the mountain range in Central Asia which spans the ancient route of the Silk Road, connecting Europe to the Far East.
