Rambervillers is a city in Alsace-Lorraine, in eastern France, where in the late nineteenth century Alphonse Cytère established a studio. This studio would churn out masterwork ceramics by leading artists of the Nancy School, such as Louis Majorelle and Jacques Grüber. The studio was well known for its unusual shiny, reflective glazes after 1903, a technique known as grès flammés, clearly visible in this piece, with its vibrant tones and shifting colors in response to light.
