With a potential nod to his former boss Eero Saarinen’s Tulip table and chairs (1957), this now-iconic lounge chair combines graceful, softened curves with an industrial modern aesthetic, as its steel rods undulate and fan out from the base. Designed in 1962 and first produced in 1966, it was one element of the iconic Platner Collection for Knoll, which is still in continuous production today and also includes similarly sculptural lounge chairs, ottomans, and tables. The Platner Collection received the American Institute of Architects International Award in 1966.
