Thierry Despont was best-known for his very successful architectural practice—but he was also an accomplished artist. Some of his most interesting works are a series of sculptures fashioned out of found—often industrial or farm—tools or components. Ranging from small, table top creations to large-scale works suitable for the outdoors, these typically take nature as their subject, and are often representations of either insects or fantastical, almost alien creatures. In this case, he wryly chose a naturalist box by Parisian taxidermist Maison Deyrolle to present his insect-like creation.
