Maison Leleu
Medium: Hand-woven wool
Dimensions: 139.5 in long x 111 in wide
The daughter of Jules Leleu, Paule joined the family company at a young age. Over time she became the firm's colorist and the head of the design studio, where she oversaw the textile department and designed more than 500 maguettes for carpets, fabrics, and wallpapers. This extraordinary design, executed as a pair of hand-woven wool carpets in 1957, features an elaborate series of rectangular Aztec-inspired motifs in greens, yellows, blues, and red.
