With his Thebes lamps Nicolas Aubagnac has reinvigorated the use of vintage techniques—in this case the application of straw marquetry and parchment—by applying them in ways, and to forms, unlikely to have existed in the past.
The table lamps to which the artist has applied these traditional techniques are so elegantly proportioned as to deserve the associations that go hand in hand with their classical name.
