Description

Hand-silvered colored glass

Height: 55.25" - Width: 36" - Depth: 2"

Summers in the South of France are when the studio quiets down, and Kiko López can take time to conduct personal experiments in form, materials, and color.

In this work, López applied his hand-silvering technique upon handcrafted colored glass from the renowned Verrerie de Saint-Just, now in operation for 200 years, and supplier to artists including Chagall, Matisse, Léger and Foujita.

López pays homage to the manner in which painter Sean Scully chooses rectangles of particular size, hue, and brightness in order to create a certain mood and emotional response in the viewer. "Anybody can throw together whatever rectangles they like... in Scully's work I like the way the rectangles interlock," he says.
