These unique carved wooden objects figure heavily in the indigenous nomadic Berber culture of North Africa, specifically Morocco. Used primarily as tent stakes or handles with which to hold up a marriage litter, these staves take on a ceremonial significance. This is made obvious by the care with which each is delicately and intricately hand-carved.
